The FIFA World Cup is the pinnacle of success in world football. The majestic tournament has seen several great players become legends over the years. The greatness of the honour and glory has made several great footballing nations take part in the World Cup over it’s long history which has lasted for more than nine decades. With the 2022 edition in Qatar just round the corner, the excitement is ever growing and the fans are eager as ever.

A total of eight stadiums will be hosting the matches throughout the World Cup in Qatar. Given it is the first time that the country will host a major international tournament, all the stadiums were constructed afresh and will be used for the first time on a global scene. For the first time ever, all venues used for the World Cup will be used for the knockout-round matches. Let’s have a look at the Al Thumama Stadium.

Al Thumama Stadium

The Al Thumama Stadium has a capacity of around 40,000 spectators which will be reduced by half after the World Cup like all the other venues. It’s construction commenced in the starting months of 2017. Al Thumama Stadium was inaugurated in October, 2021 when it hosted the final of the Emir Cup. A total of six FIFA Arab Cup 2021 games were held in the stadium.

Fixtures to be held in the Al Thumama Stadium

The Al Thumama Stadium will host a total of eight matches during the FIFA World Cup 2022. The first of these will be the keenly awaited group A encounter between Netherlands and Senegal on the second day. The stadium is also scheduled to host two knockout games; a round of 16 fixture and a quarter final.
