A total of eight stadiums will be hosting the matches throughout the World Cup in Qatar. Given it is the first time that the country will host a major international tournament, all the stadiums were constructed afresh and will be used for the first time on a global scene. For the first time ever, all venues used for the World Cup will be used for the knockout-round matches. Let’s have a look at the Al Rayyan Stadium.
The stadium is a multi-purpose one and is located in Al Rayyan, Qatar from where it gets its name. Football clubs Al-Rayyan Sports Club and Al-Kharitiyath Sports Clubs play their official home matches here. It enjoys a capacity of around 45,000 spectators. It’s inauguration took place in December of 2020. A couple of FIFA Club World Cup 2020 matches and four matches of FIFA Arab Cup 2021 were played here.
The Al Rayyan Stadium has already couple of FIFA World Cup 2022 fixtures. The first one being the 1-1 draw between USA and Wales and the other being the 1-0 Belgium win over Canada. Al Rayyan Stadium is supposed to hosts five fixtures more with one of them being a round of 16 game.
