Wales came up against Iran in the matchday two in the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium. Both the sides would have been aware of the importance of the game considering that they didn’t commence the World Cup with three points. Wales drew 1-1 with USA thanks to a late Gareth Bale penalty in their opener. While, Iran were handed a 6-2 thrashing by England. Consequently, this match had a lot riding on it as far as qualification from group B was concerned. The two other teams in the group, USA and England will be playing it out later in the day.

It was a close game till the dying moments. However, just before the 90 minute mark Welsh goalkeeper, Wayne Hennessey was shown a red card after which the game turned on in a dramatic manner. At 90+8 minutes, Roozbeh Cheshmi smashed one in from outside the box to open the scoring. It was followed by another from Ramin Rezaeian soon to put the result out of Wales’ sight. The result means that Wales and Gareth Bale now need a miracle to qualify.
After a long wait of almost seven decades, Wales’ journey in the FIFA World Cup 2022 looks almost over. They face a big challenge in England on matchday three which they need to win at any cost to have a chance at qualifying. As for Iran, this result brings a whole different dimension and hope to their World Cup campaign. They face USA next with a real chance of beating them and qualifying. Both the nations will be looking at the match between England and the US with a keen and close eye. The group as so far very much lived up to its hype and fans will be hoping it continues to do so.
