The FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar is about to draw its end on Sunday. Here are the frontrunners for the World Cup golden boot.

The global showpiece event, FIFA World Cup 2022 is just one game away from it’s conclusion. The World Cup like it’s predecessors has lived up to the expectations and provided the fans with countless unforgettable moments. Now just the final is left to be played and the curiosity levels are at the peak. Will it be Kylian Mbappe who will lead the French side to a successive World Cup crowns or will it be Argentina to claim the trophy to hand Lionel Messi his lifelong dream?

Alongside the question as to who will be the champion, another doubt is roaming around as to who will win the golden boot. Currently two players are tied at top with five goals each while two players share the second spot with four goals each. As destiny would have it, all these four players will be playing in the World Cup final at the Lusail Iconic Stadium. Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe has been in the headlines throughout the year. From his spectacular performances for Paris Saint Germain to his failed move to Real Madrid to now finally his spectacular displays for his country. Mbappe has stepped up in the absence of Karim Benzema and is now the favourite to win the golden boot. He currently has five goals to his name with two of them coming in the knockout stages. He will be delighted with the opportunity to repeat his heroics of the 2018 final where he scored a crucial goal for France.

Lionel Messi

Undoubtedly, majority of the attention before the World Cup was on Lionel Messi. This being his final World Cup had a lot riding on it. Messi has lived up to the expectations in every possible sense till now. He along with Julian Alvarez have ensured that Argentina have not lacked any sort of firepower in the attack. The 7 time Ballon D’Or winner has scored in every knockout fixture so far, something he didn’t manage to do in his previous four World Cups.

Olivier Giroud

With Karim Benzema ruled out for France days before the commencement of the World Cup, there were many doubts arising regarding the potential firepower in the French attack. However, Giroud like he has always done for his nation, stepped up and scored crucial goals for the Les Bleus. His late goal against England in the quarter finals turned out to be the match winner for France. Giroud also got an important goal in the round of 16 fixture against Poland. The AC Milan man is currently tied on four goals along with Argentina’s Julian Alvarez.
