NEC drew the first blood three minutes into the half-hour mark, when left-back Verdonk made a nice little overlapping run to get on the end of a perfectly weighted through ball from Oussama Tannae and slotted home past Wellenreuther, into the back of the net. The visitors doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time, courtesy of Marques’ effort from inside the box. Just when it looked like NEC were on their way to secure a famous win over the Eredivisie leaders, defender Philipe Sandler used his hand to deny Ezequiel Bullaude from eight yards and the referee pointed to the spot.
The substitute defender was handed a straight red card , while Kokcu converted the spot-kick to reduce the deficit in the 90th-minute. And then, less than two minutes later, Oaixao headed home from inside the box to make the score 2-2. Feyenoord could have scored a late winner but Bullaude’s 94th-minute strike from close range was brilliantly kept out by the visiting goalkeeper. The extra time offered no less drama and excitement as Santiago Gimenez canceled out Jordy Brujin’s 96th-minute effort, before Jabairo Dilrosun’s stunning strike from outside the box in the 116th-minute put Feyenoord ahead for the first time in the match. But NEC were not willing to give up and leveled the score at 4-4 through Brujin’s second of the night, two minutes from time. And the match went to penalties where De Kuip came out on top to enter the last-8 of the competition.
Twitter was buzzing as the people were going crazy about Feyenoord defeating NEC in the KMVB Cup round of 16 match. Lets see some tweets and memes from some fans from all over the world.
