Fenerbahce will host Dynamo Kyiv in the second leg of the Champions League qualifier at Sukru Saracoglu on Wednesday. The opening leg in Poland last week ended in a goalless draw and therefore the winner of the second leg would go through to the next round of qualification, where they will face Austrian outfit Sturm Graz. The hosts have been in superb form this summer winning five of their six pre-season friendlies before being held by the Ukrainian outfit at the Stadion LKS. Dynamo Kyiv, on the other hand, suffered back-to-back defeats against Lyon and Royal Antwerp before sharing the spoils against Fenerbahce last week.

Fenerbahce finished second in the Turkish top flight league last term with 73 points from 38 games, eight points behind title-winners Trabzonspor. Meanwhile this summer, the Turkish outfit netted 16 times and conceded just four goals in their six friendlies. However, they were unable to breach Dynamo Kyiv’s backline  and convert any of their 12 attempts on goal last week.  The Yellow Canaries are aiming to reach the group stage of the Champions League for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign.

Meanwhile, the 2021-22 Ukrainian Premier League came to a halt mid-way through the season because of the Russia-Ukraine war that began in February and the Kyiv based club have been playing friendlies to keep themselves match fit. With no domestic league for the 2022-23 campaign, Mircea Lucescu’s side have only competitive European matches to look forward to at present. Meanwhile a victory against Fenerbahce would see them move close to the Champions League group stage for a third successive season.
