Last Sunday, at Gillette Stadium, Henry Kessler’s own goal canceled out Dylan Borrero’s opener before Gustavo Bou gave the lead to New England. And then, Brenner’s 73rd-minute equaliser helped Cincinnati to earn a point and extend their unbeaten MLS run to four matches. The result helped the Orange and Blue to move 25 points, setting a new club record for points accumulated in a single regular season, surpassing 24 collected in their inaugural 2019 campaign.
NY Red Bulls, on the other hand, got the better of Sporting KC courtesy of Aaron Long’s lone 53rd-minute strike. It was the Red Bulls’ seventh win in their last eight games across all competitions. Their only defeat during this span came against leaders Los Angeles FC (2-0) on June 27. Gerhard Struber’s side have been very impressive away from home, winning six away games this season. A victory on Sunday would allow the Red Bulls to overtake Philadelphia and move to the summit of the standings for the time being.
Cincinnati defender Ronald Matarrita is sidelined after undergoing an ankle surgery. Meanwhile Dominique Badji and Junior Moreno are nursing leg issues. The attacking trio of Luciano Acosta, Brandon Vazquez and Brenner are likely to retain their place in the starting eleven. Kubo and Moreo could pull the strings from the midfield. As for NY Red Bulls, Sean Nealis will serve a one-match suspension following the sending off against Sporting KC. Tom Edwards is likely to come in at the right-back position. Top-scorer Lewis Morgan, who has eight scalps to his name, is expected to lead the attack with Fernandez providing the creative spark from behind.
FC Cincinnati probable starting lineup: Celentano; Haaglund, Cameron, Blackett; Powell, Kubo, Moreno, Nelson; Acosta; Vazquez, Brenner
New York Red Bulls probable starting lineup: Coronel; Edwards, D. Nealis, Long, Tolkin; Amaya, Casseres; Luquinhas, Fernandez, Morgan; Kimala
The Major League Soccer encounter between FC Cincinnati and New York Red bulls will take place at TQL stadium and it will kickoff at 5:00 am IST on July 10, Sunday.
