Former Mumbai City FC captain Amrinder Singh has joined ATK Mohun Bagan. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has signed a five-year contract with the Kolkata giants, it was announced on Monday. The Indian international leaves Mumbai after spending five years at the club. He joined Mumbai City FC initially on loan from Bengaluru FC in 2016 before signing a contract in July 2017. Amrinder is currently the first-choice goalkeeper in the Indian national team.

The footballer from Mahilpur, Punjab played for ATK in 2015 on loan from I-League club Pune FC before joining Mumbai in September 2016 and went on to lead them to their maiden ISL title and League winner trophy in the 2020-21 season. However the Indian international returns to the two-time ISL champions and last year’s finalists for a second stint.

Amrinder is currently with the Indian national team in Doha for the remaining matches of the World Cup/Asian Cup qualifiers. He is expected to be in the starting-XI when The Blue Tigers take on host Qatar on June 3.

On January 4, 2020, Amrinder became the most capped player in the history of Mumbai City FC when he led the team against ATK. Later, he went on to make 84 appearances for Mumbai City FC and the last one was the ISL final against his new club ATK Mohun Bagan.

Amrinder won the golden glove in 2016 while helping Bengaluru FC to win the I-League title. Whereas, he finished last season with 10 clean sheets in 23 appearances, equal to Golden Glove winner ATK Mohun Bagan’s Arindam Bhattacharya

“Even though I played in Kolkata before, it was for a very short time.  This is going to be a new chapter in my football career. Winning all the trophies for Mumbai last year was a memorable event in my life. I want the same success in the green and maroon jersey next season,” Amrinder said in a statement issued by ATKMB.

“There are three reasons behind coming to Kolkata. They are: the support of a huge number of ATK Mohun Bagan supporters, the football philosophy of coach Habas and the principal owner of the team Sanjiv Goenka and the glorious history of football of this city,” he added.
