Hungary delivered a fantastic performance against France in the Group F encounter of Euro 2020 between the two sides, holding their illustrious opponents to a 1-1 draw. Attila Fiola gave Hungary a surprise lead after the latter failed to take advantage of opportunities available in the first half. Antoine Griezmann ensured France a point in a match they dominated, without any real impact on the scoreline. The clash is certainly an indication that no team can be taken for granted even by some of the greatest nations in world football.

Popular football commentator and critic Suman Chakraborty believes that Hungary were well capable of recording a draw even against Portugal, if not for Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Ronaldo made the difference between the two sides. Otherwise, it would have certainly been a goalless draw. A clash of very fine margins for sure. The same was visible in the match between Scotland and England. I would call it an encounter akin to a Premier League match. 20 players out of the 22 on the field were part of the English league, where we are well aware of the top-ranked team getting defeated by a side battling relegation on their day. The current Hungary squad is extremely disciplined and hard working. They did a fine job in negotiating a fine performer like Ronaldo, with the penalty making the difference in the end. France had their chances, with Karim Benzema unable to make much of an impact. They failed to get a goal in the first half, which certainly proved to be an area of concern. However, credit to Hungary who delivered a fine performance with some brilliant counter-attacking football,” he says in an exclusive interaction with Sportslumo.

“England need to give Jadon Sancho an opportunity”

The popular football commentator backed England to make a comeback following the 0-0 draw against Scotland. However, he insisted on the need to go for changes in the lineup for enjoying optimum results.

“England need to give Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish an opportunity. It would also be wise to include Ben Chilwell instead of Luke Shaw. Maybe it’s time to rest Raheem Sterling, considering the lack of effectiveness in front of goal in recent times. Mason Mount should be deployed in the role of a super-sub with Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips, Phil Foden, Harry Maguire, Reece James some of the players who should feature in the lineup,” he added.

Chakraborty was full of praise for Czech Republic striker Patrik Schick who has been a consistent performer, scoring his third goal in two games in the recent encounter against Croatia.

“Schick can play in the best leagues of world football. While his second goal against Scotland received a lot of appreciation as deserved, I would urge the masses to also pay attention towards his opener. It was a brilliant effort and an indication of the talent in the lad’s arsenal,” the football commentator stated.

Hungary coach Marco Rossi was full of praise for his players, following the 1-1 draw against France.

“My team played an exceedingly good tactical match, and carried out their business with the correct amount of bravery and heart. I can only thank them. Nowadays, many coaches are convinced that the team wins because of the coach’s tactics. They’re wrong. The players are always the lead characters. Today they performed. It was unimaginable,” he said while speaking to M4 Sport.

It will be interesting to note their performance in the next Euro 2020 encounter against Germany.
