Manchester United have announced the signing of Jadon Sancho, subject to international clearance after he completed his reported 73 million pounds move from Borussia Dortmund. Sancho, whose move to Old Trafford was agreed in principle earlier this month, completed a medical after the conclusion of Euro 2020. He has signed a five-year deal at United, with an option of a further year. The 21-year-old winger has scored 50 goals and registered 64 assists in four seasons with Dortmund in Germany. The England International was part of the squad that reached the final of Euro 2020. However, Sancho was one of the three English players who missed a penalty in the shootout as Italy lifted the trophy in incredible fashion.

“I’ll always be grateful to Dortmund for giving me the opportunity to play first team football, although I always knew that I would return to England one day,” Jadon Sancho was quoted as saying by the club’s website. “The chance to join Manchester United is a dream come true and I just cannot wait to perform in the Premier League. This is a young and exciting squad and I know, together, we can develop into something special to bring the success that the fans deserve. I am looking forward to working with the manager and his coaching team to further develop my game.”

Speaking about the signing, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said, “Jadon epitomises the type of player I want to bring to the club, he is a forward player in the best traditions of Manchester United. He will form an integral part of my squad for years to come and we look forward to seeing him blossom. His goals and assists records speak for themselves and he will also bring tremendous pace, flair and creativity to the team.”

Calling it an “honour”, Jadon Sancho has opened up about moving to the Old Trafford club. “It’s an honour. Growing up, Manchester United was one of the biggest clubs that everyone knows, and of course there is also all the trophies they’ve won and there have been many iconic players that have come before me. So I’m very happy to be wearing this jersey now,” he added.

“It feels very nice. To have the fans by my side is always a great feeling, especially when you come to a new club, because you need to feel comfortable straight away, and I’m sure the fans will give me that feeling.”

The former Borussia Dortmund player becomes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s second signing of the summer following the addition of goalkeeper Tom Heaton. The English winger could be in line to make his United debut against Leeds on 14 August. Speaking about it, Sancho said, “Yes, definitely, I’m excited for the new season, especially as the first game is at home. That’s always a confidence booster – to be in front of your own fans – so it will be nice.”

Asked how his spell in the Bundesliga would have helped him develop, Sancho replied, “It helped me grow as a player and I had the experience of playing in the Champions League and getting the feel of big games. I feel like I did well in those big games and now I’m ready for a new challenge and a bigger step.”
