Pyramids FC missed a great opportunity to top the Egyptian Premier League table after they were held to a goalless draw by Future FC. The home side could have temporarily leapfrogged Zamalek to the top spot had they won their match, however, the draw meant they had to hold on to the second place. In a match completely dominated by Pyramids, the visitors maintained their shape and frustrated the hosts throughout the 90 minutes. As things stand now, Zamalek currently top the table with 41 points from 19 games and Pyramids are second with 40 points from 20 matches. Future FC are fourth, with 35 points from 20 games.

How did the match turn out?

The match started with Pyramids FC dominating the possession while the visitors were happy to sit back and play on the counter. The first meaningful chance came in the 10th minute for the hosts when Abdalla El Said’s shot from outside the box was saved by the goalkeeper. Then the home side came close again when Islam Eissa’s left-footed strike from the middle of the box was heroically blocked.

Later, Ibrahim Adel had a couple of chances and one of which was well blocked by the defenders, as the visiting team continued to frustrate the hosts. Fagrie Lakay and Adel tried to test the visiting goal but their defence stood tall as the home side were unable to penetrate through their resolute backline. Very few chances came in the way of Future FC but they did well to keep the scoreline goalless going into the half-time break.

Pyramids FC vs Future FC: Same story in second half

The second period started with the home side bringing on Fakhreddine Ben Youssef in place of Ibrahim Adel. Ben Youssef almost turned out to be a dream substitution for the home side. Just minutes after coming on he had a couple of cracks at the opposition goal, especially the second one was close. After being played through by Walid El Karti, Ben Youssef’s strike from the centre of the box was well saved to keep the scoreline intact. In the midst of it, the visiting side brought on Mahmoud Shaaban in place of Omar Kamal due to an injury.

Then Future FC had a rare glimpse at goal when Ahmet Atef’s shot from the box went wide. Immediately after that, the home side had a great opportunity to open the score. Walid El Karti’s header from inside the box narrowly went wide following Abdalla El Said’s cross from a corner. Soon after, Fagrie Lakay forced a good save from the goalkeeper.

The pressure kept mounting on the visitors but they did well to keep the home side at bay. Deep into the half, Future’s Marouane Sahraoui tested the goalkeeper from the box which was saved by the shot-stopper. Later in the injury time, Fakhreddine Ben Youssef had a final opportunity but his header from the centre of the goal went wide, as Pyramids FC had to settle for a point.
