Egypt will host Niger in an international friendly at the Borg El Arab stadium on Friday. Both sides have failed to qualify for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, with the hosts faltering in the last hurdle against Senegal, while Niger failed to progress from the Group stage of the qualification. Egypt’s dreams of reaching back-to-back World Cup finals was thrashed by Senegal in June after the Pharaohs were beaten 3-1 on penalties in the second leg of the qualifying playoff tie. After that, the seven time African champions began their quest for 2023 AFCON qualification with a 1-0 win over Guinea on June 6, before losing 2-0 to Ethiopia, three days later. Meanwhile, in their last outing against South Korea on June 14, Egypt conceded four times, while managing to score only once through Mostafa Mohamed. Niger, on the other hand, began their AFCON qualifiers with two consecutive 1-1 draws against Tanzania and Uganda. Amadou Sabo canceled out Milton Karisa’s opener to share the spoils against Uganda.

Egypt boss Vitoria has named a 27-man squad for the upcoming friendlies against Niger and Liberia. Liverpool-man Mohamed Salah is expected to spearhead the attack alongside Marmoush and Trezeguet. As for Niger, Jean-Michel Cavalli could opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation with Abdel Alhassane and Karim Doudou deployed at the heart of the defence. Daniel Sosah could lead the line with Adje, Moumouni and Wonkoye in support.
