Egypt put three goals past Niger without reply courtesy of a brace from Mohamed Salah and one goal from Mostafa Mohamed. In what was his first game in charge of Egypt, newly-appointed head coach Rui Vitoria would have been impressed by his team’s dominant performance. Prior to that, the Pharaohs suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Ethiopia in their second game in Group D of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers on June 9, before losing 4-1 against South Korea in a friendly five days later.
Liberia, on the other hand, are winless in their last five games across all competitions. Prior to the draw against Niger, the Lone stars suffered a 2-0 defeat to Morocco in a 2023 AFCON qualifier in June. Faycal Fajr and Youssef En Nesyri netted for the Atlas Lions to secure all three points. Liberia’s last win came against Central African Republic (3-1) in their last match of the World Cup qualifier in November, 2021.
Egypt boss Vitoria is likely to opt for a 4-3-3 formation with Salah, Mostafa Mohmaed and Zizo forming the front-three. Mahmoud Trezeguet is likely to partner Omar Marmoush in the engine room. The defence line of Omar Gaber, Ahmed Hegazy, Mahmoud Hamdi and Mohamed Hamdi could shield Mohamed El-Shenawy in goal. As for Liberia, Kpah Sherman is expected to spearhead the attack alongside Abu Kamara. Slavia Prague-man Oscar Dorley could pull the strings in the midfield alongside Kromah.
Egypt probable starting lineup: El Shenawy, Gaber, Hegazy, Mohamed Hamdi, Mahmoud Hamdi, Ashour, Marmoush, Trezeguet, Salah, Zizo, M Mohamed
Liberia probable starting lineup: Wynney, Dweh, Balde, Jamal, Alajarin, Soumaoro, Dorley, Kromah, Adukor, Sherman, Kamara
The international friendly match between Egypt and Liberia will take place at Borg El Arab Stadium Tuesday at 11:30 pm IST.
