Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone led the Spanish club to its second La Liga triumph under his reign, following a 2-1 triumph in their final league encounter against Real Valladolid CF. Simeone has been the manager of the Madrid-based club since 2011. While he has not enjoyed the level of success one would have expected from a manager of his calibre, what has been consistent is the level of backing and support from the club. It is certainly a rare sight to witness such an attitude in today’s times with managers sacked on the back of poor performances in a couple of games.

Popular football commentator and critic Suman Chakraborty hailed the 51-year-old manager as well as the Atletico Madrid management for the telling statement to all clubs in world football.

“Success is a process. Diego Simeone’s journey experienced its fair share of struggle and disappointment despite being a tactical mastermind, which is an indication of that. However, he managed to close the gap on the back of some pretty impressive support from the Atletico Madrid management. Simeone might have been sacked at a club like Barcelona or Real Madrid, considering the limited level of success delivered. The Argentinian has however repaid the faith invested, considering his wonderful contribution to Atletico Madrid” he says in an exclusive interaction with Sportslumo.

Kieran Trippier’s impressive performances

Chakraborty further had words of praise for former Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier, hailing him as the finest dead-ball specialist in English football after David Beckham.

“Trippier has been very impressive for Atletico Madrid. He should look to return to English football, where his performances will get the limelight they deserve. The defender has sent out a strong statement to all his critics, on the back of a splendid season. Certainly the finest dead-ball specialist in English football after David Beckham,” he added.

The football commentator urged Real Madrid to sign a reliable defender as soon as possible, highlighting the same as a critical factor.

“There are big clubs, there are top clubs and there are grand clubs. Real Madrid is a grand club. Zinedine Zidane has been wonderful as a manager, providing complete guidance to the likes of Vinicius Junior. However, they will be stronger in case of the addition of a rock-solid defender, who gets the job done at any cost. The departure of Pepe created this gap, which needs to be filled as soon as possible,” he concluded.
