However, Derry are winless in their last six games, having lost three and drawn three. In the league game at Sligo Rovers, on May 24, the Candy Stripes lost 2-1. The hosts took the lead through Garry Buckley before Jamie McGonigle equalised for Derry on the stroke of half-time. Just when it looked like the points would be shared, Seamas Keogh scored the winner for Sligo in the fourth minute of second-half injury time. Derry are currently placed third in the table, just one point behind second-placed Dundalk, which gives them a chance to climb into second with a win.
Drogheda, on the other hand, are heading into the tie on the back of some impressive performances. The visitors are undefeated in their last three games, where they have been able to pick up two victories and a draw in that period. In their previous match at Bohemians, Dean Williams’s late goal canceled out Jordan Flores’ opener to share the points. Prior to that, Devin Doherty’s side registered a surprise 1-0 victory against league-leaders Shamrock Rovers. Ryan Brennan’s 37th-minute goal separated the two sides at United Park.
Derry have several injury issues as Michael Duffy and Ciaron Harkin are sidelined, while Cameron Dummigan is doubtful following a muscle problem. As for Drogheda, Darragh Markey is nursing a muscle problem, but Williams is fit and available for the friday game after suffering a knock in the previous outing.
