The two losing semifinalists in the FIFA World Cup 2022, Croatia and Morocco, will be going against each other to secure the third place on Saturday. Both sides would have preferred to play on Sunday in the final, however, they would be quietly content with where they are. At the start of the tournament, hardly many predicted these two nations to reach the semifinals. However, they defied the odds and pulled off incredible shocks to be competing in the third-placed playoff. 

Both sides were surprisingly placed in the same Group F where Morocco unexpectedly topped the group with seven points, while Croatia finished second with five points. This forced one of the tournament heavyweight Belgium to leave Qatar at its first hurdle. In the knockout round, Morocco defeated Spain in the round of 16 before shocking Portugal in the quarter-finals, however, they were undone by defending champions France in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Croatia stunned the mighty Brazil in the last-eight stage but they were well beaten by Argentina in the last four.

Croatia vs Morocco: Records, Stats & Goals

These two countries have not faced many times in the past, however, they are going to end up playing each other twice in this World Cup. Prior to the Qatar World Cup, these two nations came together only once in a friendly encounter in 1996 when Croatia won on penalties. Then they faced each other in their opening match of the World Cup which ended in a goalless stalemate. It will be interesting to see how this contest turns out on Saturday in the third-placed playoff.
