Cork City have been in very good form in the League of Ireland first Division, winning 15 of their opening 20 games to pocket 49 points and sit at the summit of the standings. The Rebel Army’s recent form has been impressive, winning all of their last three games, scoring nine times, while conceding just once. Colin Healy’s side have not lost in any competition since a 1-0 loss to Galway United at home back in February.
Stoke City, on the other hand, are hoping to make full use of their pre-season friendlies ahead of the upcoming 2022-23 campaign. Since dropping down the Premier League in the 2017-18 season, Stoke have struggled to challenge for promotion or get anywhere close to the top six. Head coach Michael O’Neil side is going through a rebuilding process after the likes of Joe Allen, Tom Ince, Benik Afobe and Steven Fletcher have all ended their stints with the Potters.
Cork city are in the midst of a regular season and therefore the players are likely to be in a much better shape and frame of mind than their Saturday’s opponents. The Irish outfit did not report any fresh injury concerns from the win over Bray Wanderers, while new signing Barry Coffey from Celtic could be given some game time to gel with the team. As for Stoke City, O’ Neil is expected to rotate the squad in order to test the squad, and get a better understanding of the new signings. The likes of Liam McCarron, Aden Flint and Josh Laurent, who joined the club recently, would be itching to get on the field and impress the coach.
Cork City probable starting lineup: Harrington; O’Connor, Honohan, Hakkinen; Bargary, Coffey, Bolger, Coleman, Doona; Keating, Murphy
Stoke City probable starting lineup: Bursik; Duhaney, Clarke, Jagielka, Flint, Tymon; Kilkenny, Baker, Laurent; Campbell, Brown.
