Corinthians will host Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores Round of 16 fixture at Corinthians stadium on Tuesday. Both sides haven’t had the best of results in their previous games in their respective leagues. The hosts were held to a goalless draw by Santos in the Brazil League fixture on Saturday, while Boca Juniors suffered a 2-1 defeat to Union in the Argentine Primera Division match. The Argentine club will lead into the game seeking to get one over the hosts, having failed to register wins in any of the two meetings between the two sides during the group stage.

Corinthians squeezed through to the knockout stage of the continental competition courtesy of a runner-up finish in Group F, just one point above third-placed Deportivo Cali. Vitor Pereira’s side managed to secure 2 wins, three draws and a draw in their six group stage fixtures. The Peoples Team will feature in the knockout stage of the continental showpiece for the first time since 2018. The Brazilian outfit is unbeaten in their last five games across all competition, and prior to the Santos draw on Saturday, Pereira’s men put four goals past the same opponents without reply in a Copa do Brasil last-16 fixture on last Wednesday.
Boca Juniors, on the other hand, topped Group E with 10 points, having won 3 of their 6 games. Sebastian Battaglia’s men didn’t have the best of preparations heading into the continental tie, losing to Union at home on Friday. Eduardo Salvio canceled out Daniel Eduardo Juarez’ opener before Franco Troyansky netted the dramatic winner in the 15th minute of injury time. It was only their loss of the domestic season and the Blue and Gold should be able to shrug off their disappointment and quickly shift their concentration to Corinthians.
Corinthians will be without their midfield duo of Paulinho and Ruan Oliveira as both of them are nursing cruciate ligament injuries. Meanwhile Maycon is sidelined with a muscle problem and forward Luan is out with a hip problem. Joao Victor missed the Santos game because of a sprained ankle and is doubtful for Wednesday’s game. As for Boca Juniors, the injury list is fairly short by comparison. The Argentine outfit will be without Diego Gonzalez, Norberto Briasco. Dario Benedetto, who has netted three goals in Copa Libertadores so far, is likely to lead the attack.
Corinthians probable starting lineup: Cassio; Fragner, Mendez, Gustavo, F Santos; Paulo, Cantillo, Queiroz; Moraes, Willian, Mantuan.
Boca Juniors probable starting lineup: Javier’ Weigandt. Zambrano, Rojo, Sandez; Campuzano, Molinas, Rolon; Romero, Salvio, Benedetto.
The Copa Libertadores Round of 16 match between Corinthians and Boca Juniors will take place at the Corinthians Stadium and it will kickoff at 6:00 am IST on June 29, Wednesday.
The Copa Libertadores matches are televised on beIN Sports, fuboTV, Fanatiz, Sling World Sports and Vidgo
