Columbus Crew will host Philadelphia Union in a Major League Soccer (MLS) fixture at Lower.com Field on Sunday. The hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a 2-1 win at Toronto FC last Wednesday, while, on the same day, Philadelphia suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at Chicago. Columbus currently occupy 9th spot in the Eastern Conference table with 21 points, while the visitors are six places above them with 29 points. Therefore, with just eight points separating the two sides, Columbus would be hoping to close the gap and Catapult themselves back into the mix.

On Wednesday, at BMO Field,Columbus netted two goals inside the opening half-hour through Sean Zawadzski and Darlington Nagbe. Although Toronto pulled one back through Jesus Jimenez, the Crew held on to the slender lead and secured all three points. It was a solid defensive display from Caleb Porter’s side, as they had only 36% ball possession, defended deep and absorbed all the pressure in the second half.

Philadelphia, on the other hand, suffered only their second league defeat of the season on Wednesday courtesy of Federico Navarro’s lone 68th-minute strike. Meanwhile Philadelphia finished the match with 10-man after Jose Martinez was sent off, eighteen minutes from time. Off late, Philadelphia’s form hasn’t been very great, registering just two wins from their last 11 games. However, because of their brilliant initial form, which saw them winning five of their opening six games, Jim Kurin’s side are still joint-top of the standings alongside Montreal.
