Colon FC will host Talleres Cordoba in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores Round of 16 fixture at Estadio Brigadier Gral E Lopez on Wednesday. The two Argentine clubs played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg match last week and therefore the winner in Santa Fe would book a spot in the last-8 of the Continental championship. Colon’s form off late hasn’t been very great, not recording a single victory in their last five games across all competitions. At Estadio Malvinas Argentina last Saturday, Tadeo Allende’s 57th-minute goal was enough to separate the two sides and hand third defeat of the season to Colon. Julio Cesar Falconi’s side haven’t had the best of starts to their domestic campaign, registering just one win from six games to sit at the 22nd spot. However, in the group stage of the continental competition, the Santa Fe-based side picked up ten points from their six games to secure top spot.
Talleres, on the other hand, secured three wins and two draws in six games to pocket 11 points, 7 more than third-placed Universidad Catolica in Group H of the Copa Libertadores. However, just like their Wednesday’s opponents, La T haven’t had a great start to the domestic season, losing three of their opening six games to be placed at the 23rd spot. Against Tigre, last Saturday, La T came from behind to earn a point. Matias Catalan scored an 84th-minute equaliser after Victor Cabrera had opened the scoring in the 40th-minute.
Colon’s attack would be led by Ramon Abila, with Mino and Pierotti occupying the flanks. Facundo Farias, who has three scalps to his name in this tournament is expected to pull the strings in the midfield alongside Bernardi. Lertora is expected to sit in front of the back-four consisting of Novillo, Goltz, Graces and Meza. As for Talleres, Catalan and Perez are likely to form the centre-back pair, with Benavidez and Diaz occupying the full-back position. Mendez would be the lone striker with Godoy, M Esquivel and Fertoli in support.
