The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a stunning 7-3 away-victory over North East United FC on December 10, while Blasters got the better of Bengaluru FC 3-2, a day later. Chennaiyin are currently occupying seventh position in the Indian top flight ISL standings, having collected 13 points from nine games, while the visitors are sitting one place above them, with a five point lead.

Chennaiyin defeated North East United FC courtesy of a hat-trick from Abdenasser El Khayati, a double from Peter Sliskovic, one from Julius Ducker and Joe Zoherliana’s own goal. It was their fourth league-win of the campaign. The last two meetings between the Southern rivals ended 3-0 in favour of the Blasters and over the years the two clubs have been involved in some of the feistiest encounters in the history of ISL. Meanwhile, the Chennai-based side hasn’t tasted victory in the last 4 head-to-head games against Blasters. Scoring goals has not been a problem for the Marina Machans this term, as they have netted 19 goals in the tournament thus far, only behind Mumbai City FC (30), but Thomas Bradric’s side have struggled in the defensive department, having conceded 20 goals.
Blasters, on the other hand, have been solid at the back, having kept three clean sheets and conceded just 13 goals from nine outings. Ivan Vukomanovic’s side are aiming to extend their winning streak to six consecutive games. The Yellow Army’s last outing against Bengaluru FC was a five-goal thriller which ended in Blasters’ favour.
