Chelsea suffered their 10th league-defeat of the season against Aston villa on Saturday courtesy of goals from Ollie Watkins and John McGinn. The Blues had close to 70% ball possession and attempted 27 shots with eight of them on target, but failed to find the back of the net in front of their own supporters. The result ended Graham Potters’ short stint at Stamford Bridge and Bruno Salter will temporarily take charge of the team, while the management search for a new manager. Chelsea have recorded 10 top flight victories this term and last of those triumphs came at Leicester City (3-1) on March 11, thanks to goals from Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic. Meanwhile, the Blues are set to play Real Madrid in their Champions League quarter-final tie later this month.
Liverpool, on the other hand, suffered a humiliating 6-2 aggregate defeat to Los Blancos in the Champions League last-16 tie and are left with only the Premier League to focus on for the remainder of the season. After the 1-0 loss to Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of their European tie, the Reds suffered a league-defeat to Man City despite taking the lead through Mohamed Salah’s 17th-minute effort at Etihad Stadium. Goals from Julian Alvarez, Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish handed Liverpool their ninth league-defeat of the campaign. After the whopping 7-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield at the start of March, Jurgen Klopp’s side have now lost three consecutive games in all competitions.
