has been very little for Chelsea supporters to cheer in a largely forgettable 2022-23 campaign. With just 44 points coming from 38 games, Chelsea finished at a disappointing 12th place in the Premier League table. Their cup runs neither caught the eye. In the end, it was a largely forgettable season for the Blues’ faithful. Having said that one of the few positives in an otherwise disappointing campaign was the emergence of promising young winger Noni Madueke.

After joining from Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven in January, Noni Madueke has been quite impressive on the right wing. His direct approach of running at players and dribbling past them has made it difficult for opposition players to deal with the young Chelsea winger. Towards the end of the season, the Blues’ caretaker manager Frank Lampard gave Madueke regular game time, which helped the youngster show his potential to the club’s supporters.

“I’ve enjoyed my six months so much. I’m blessed to play for Chelsea. That’s one thing I never take for granted. I’ve been in the team for the last month and a half. The gaffer has shown great confidence in me. He has helped me a lot so I wish him all the best. He has probably taken my game to another level. I have a lot of levels I can get to and in time hopefully I will do that with the boys,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

‘We can go into the holiday with a bit of a better feeling’

Chelsea’s miserable Premier League campaign came to a decent end after the Blues played out a 1-1 draw against in-form Newcastle United. Madueke impressed a lot in that game at the weekend and his performance was one of the positives to take away from that match. “After the first 10 minutes it was a good team performance. We have conceded the first goal at home so many times this season, it’s something we need to make sure is better for the next year. The performance after that goal was much better,” he added.

Madueke remains confident that Chelsea will come back stronger next season, as he analysed the final game of their season. “In transition they caught us a few times, they’re a good team. They have willing runners, good players, but we completely dominated the second half, and at points in the first half. A few sloppy errors in possession but all in all it was a much better performance than we have shown in recent weeks. We deserved to win, but it’s been the story of our season, just not getting over the line when we need to. We can go into the holiday with a bit of a better feeling. Although this season has not been at the Chelsea standard, I’m sure next season will be,” he stated.
