Chelsea host Leicester with Champions League qualification at stake

Chelsea will host Leicester City in the Premier League fixture on Tuesday after the Blues lost FA Cup final 1-0 to the Foxes on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel’s side will be eyeing revenge with Champions League qualification at stake. Leicester City have 66 points from 36 games and Chelsea are just two points behind them.

The match between third placed Leicester and Fourth placed Chelsea is crucial in the context of the top four race as fifth placed Liverpool is just one point behind Chelsea.

Brendan Rodgers side will be looking to complete their first league double against the Blues since the 2000-01 season.

Leicester won their first FA Cup title in their 137-year history courtesy of a 63rd minute sensational 30-yeard strike by midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The victory against the Champions League finalist’s will be a boost to Leicester’s attempts to cement the Champions League spot with just two games remaining.

With the first two spots already sealed by Champions Manchester City and Manchester United the race is for the remaining two spots.

Rodgers has confirmed that central defender Jonny Evans will not be available for the crucial match against Chelsea.

The 33-year old defender was substituted in the first half of the FA Cup final following a foot injury. The Irish footballer has been a pivotal part of Brendan Rodgers’ side. He has made 28 Premier League appearances this season and scored two goals.

“Jonny won’t play in the (Chelsea) game, he’ll struggle for that,” Rodgers said on Monday. “We’ll see what he’s like for next weekend, but he won’t be involved tomorrow.”

Chelsea look to overtun slump

Chelsea on the other hand will be disappointed after Saturdays loss and will be desperate for a revenge victory.

Former Leicester man Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz came on in the second half and nearly made an impact . Both will be hoping for a start on Tuesday.

Tuchel welcomes Danish defender Andreas Christensen and Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic back in the squad after recovering from injuries.

Chelsea’s bench strength might come into play as both teams are meeting for the second time in of three days.

Leicester will end their campaign against sixth placed Tottenham at home. Chelsea on the other hand will travel to Aston Villa on May 23.

Fifth placed Liverpool have the easiest of remaining fixtures compared to Chelsea and Leicester. The Reds will play Burnley and Crystal Palace respectively.
