The second leg of the Champions League semifinal between Chelsea and Real Madrid will see Eden Hazard returning to the ground where he made a name for himself. After joining Chelsea in 2012, the Belgian winger was a pivotal player at Stamford Bridge for seven seasons before departing to Madrid in 2019. When Hazard joined the Blues in 2012, they had just recently won the Champions League for the first time in their history.

All these years later, Chelsea have another chance of reaching the final after drawing the first leg 1-1 in Spain last week. But this time Hazard will be a part of the visiting team, Real Madrid, which will try to leapfrog the London club to enter the final. So far this campaign, the Belgian winger has endured a stop-gap season as he struggled with injuries. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact Hazard can have on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen only had good things to say about Hazard. “I think everyone at this club only has good things to say about Eden, a lot of praise,” Christensen said at a press conference on Tuesday. “It hasn’t changed and we know what he has done for this club. Yes, he is probably going to be a big factor again.”

“I think he has always been a player that brings a lot of happiness and good mood on the pitch. If he has that you will see his quality as well. I’ve seen him grow with the team and the place around him, he was trying to bring that on to the next generation as well.”

Christensen believes Hazard is the kind of player who always brings something different to the table due to his qualities. “We know his qualities and he will probably be a big factor in the game. He’s always been someone who brings a lot of quality and happiness to the team. So no matter where he would go he would bring something to the team,” he added.

Accepting that they are defensively sound, Christensen feels they have so much quality up front too. “I think we know we are a difficult team to score against at the moment but we have so much quality up front,” he added.

“There is no extra pressure on our side. We just want to do what we normally do and have done for so long. At the same time, we want to show our quality going forward.”
