The UEFA Champions League is an annual football competition organized by UEFA, which brings together the best European clubs. It is widely regarded as the most important and prestigious club competition in the world. The Champions League, formerly known as the European Cup, comprises the group stage, which is played on a round robin system, and the knockout stages, which is played over two matches, at the exception of the final, which is played as a single match. Different countries have different rules for qualifying for the Champions League, but more often clubs that finish in the top four of a domestic league gain access to the next Champions League.

The history of the Champions League dates back to the 1950s, when in 1955 the first edition of the competition was organized, played only in the knockout format. Over the years the format has undergone several changes and is currently contested by 32 teams starting from the group stage. The value of the Champions League is very well reflected in the fact that many great players and coaches see it as the pinnacle of success and fight for it as the ultimate glory.

The 2021/22 Champions League saw a historic run by Real Madrid, which ended with the achievement of their 14th European title. Real Madrid eliminated PSG, Chelsea, Manchester City and finally Liverpool in the final to raise the “big ears” trophy. Manchester City and Villarreal were the other two semi-finalists with Madrid and Liverpool. Karim Benzema personally produced a historic campaign as he scored 15 goals during the season, a record surpassed only by Cristiano Ronaldo.
