UEFA Champions League is an annual footballing competition organized by UEFA which is contested by the top division clubs in Europe. It is widely regarded as the greatest and most prestigious club competition in the world. The Champions League, known earlier as the European Cup consists of the group stage which is played in a round-robin system and the knockout stages are played over two legs except the final which is played as a single match. Different countries have different rules for qualification to the Champions League but mostly the clubs finishing in the top four of a national league gain entry to the next Champions League.

The history of the Champions League dates back to the 1950s, when in 1955 the first edition of the competition was organized which was consisted of only the knockout stages. Over the years, the format has undergone several changes and now is currently contested by 32 teams beginning from the group stages. The value that the Champions League has is very well reflected by the fact as to how many top players and coaches consider it to be the pinnacle of success and fight for it as the ultimate glory.

The 2021/22 Champions League witnessed a historic run from Real Madrid en route to the final, which concluded with them winning their 14th European Title. Madrid eliminated PSG, Chelsea, Manchester City and finally, Liverpool in the final to lift the trophy with the ‘big ears’. Manchester City and Villarreal were the other two semifinalists with Madrid and Liverpool. Karim Benzema produced a historic campaign individually as he scored 15 goals over the campaign, a record bettered only by Cristiano Ronaldo.
