CFR Cluj will host FC Pyunik in the second leg of their UEFA champions League first-round qualifying match at the Stadionul Dr. Constantin Raduslescu on Thursday. The first leg in Yerevan had ended in a goalless draw, therefore the winner in Gruia would advance to the next round where they will face either F91 Dudelange or Tirana later this month. Meanwhile the hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Sepsi in the Supercupa Romaniei fixture last Saturday. Pyunik won the 2021-22 Armenia Premier League title by collecting 75 points from 32 games, just one point more than second placed Ararat-Armenia.

Meanwhile the Romanian outfit lifted the dometic league title last season in a similar fashion, finishing just one point above second placed FCSB during the playoff. The Railwaymen have made it to the Champions League group stages on three occasions, most recently in the 2012-13 season. Dan Petrescu’s men are the favourites to advance to the second round because of their superior pedigree in the continental competition.
