Barcelona will travel to Alfonso Murube Stadium to take on Spanish third tier side Ceuta in the Copa del Rey round of 16 fixture on Thursday night. Blaugrana are heading into the match on the back of a Supercopa de Espana triumph, courtesy of defeating arch rivals Real Madrid 3-1 in the final at King Fahd International Stadium in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. The hosts, meanwhile, played out a 2-2 Primera Federacion draw against Castilla, last weekend. Ceuta are currently languishing at the bottom of the Spanish third tier standings, having collected just eight points from their 19 outing, while Xavi;s side are sitting at the summit of the La Liga table, with 41 points to their name from 16 games, three clear of the reigning champions Los Blancos.

Ceuta have already played three games in this year’s Copa del Rey, having got the better of Ultrera, Ibiza and Elche in the previous rounds. In the previous round against La Liga side Elche, Rodri’s lone goal from the penalty spot, on the stroke of half-time, was enough for the Caballas to secure the win and enter the last-16. Meanwhile, Cueta came from behind to rescue a point against Real Madrid Castilla in their last outing.
Barcelona, on the other hand, are in stunning form, having won four of their last five games across all competitions, since the resumption of competitive action following the World Cup break. Last time out, Blaugrana defeated Real Madrid, courtesy of goals from Gavi, Robert Lewandowski and Pedri. Meanwhile, Karim Benzema scored a late consolation goal for Los Blancos. It was Xavi’s first title as the head coach of the Catalan club and the 42-year old will be hoping to add more trophies to his cabinet. Meanwhile, Barcelona will be hoping to avoid a second successive last-16 exit in the Cup competitions after going out at this stage to Athletic Bilbao last year.
