UEFA Champions League holders Real Madrid will begin their title-defence with a trip to Glasgow to take on Celtic on Tuesday night. The hosts had won the Scottish Premier League last term to earn a place among Europe’s elite, while Real Madrid won the 2022-23 La Liga trophy. Celtic are heading into the match on the back of a dominant 4-0 victory over arch rivals Rangers in a domestic league fixture last Sunday, while the visitors secured a 2-1 win over Real Betis in a La Liga match on the same day.

Celtic have made a brilliant start to their domestic league title-defence, recording six wins from as many games to occupy top spot in the standings. In their recent outing against Rangers, Liel Abada netted a brace, while Jota and David Turnbull scored one goal each to secure all three points for Celtic. Ange Postecoglou’s side will play in Group F in this edition of Champions League alongside Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, have also made a perfect start to their 2022-23 campaign. The Los Blancos have been victorious in the opening five matches, four of those have been in La Liga. Carlo Ancelotti’s side began their season by defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 to lift the European Super Cup on August 12. And then, the Los Blancos got the better of Almeria, Celta Vigo, Espanyol and Real Betis to pocket 12 points, and move to the summit of the La Liga Santander. In their last match against Betis, Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo netted for Ancelotti’s side to secure the victory.
