Celtic are aiming to secure their fifth trophy under the stewardship of Ange Postecoglou, who took charge of the Hoops back in June 2021. The Celts secured their second consecutive league-title under the Australian this term with four games to spare, finishing seven points clear of arch rivals Rangers, while they have also won successive Scottish League Cups, lifting this season’s trophy courtesy of a 2-1 triumph over the Gers at Hampden Park in February. Celtic put five goals past Aberdeen without reply in their final league-game of the campaign last Saturday thanks to a brace each from Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu either side of Carl Starfelt’s lone goal. Meanwhile, the Celts defeated the likes of Greenock Morton, St Mirren, Hearts and Rangers en route to the final of the Scottish Cup.
Iverness, meanwhile, will be competing in their first ever major final since winning the Scottish Cup back in 2014-15. The second tier side overcame the likes of Stirling Alnion, Queens Park and Falkirk to reach this far in the competition. Caley Thistle defeated Falkirk 3-0 in the semifinal clash towards the end of April thanks to Billy McKay’s brace and one goal from Daniel MacKay. Meanwhile, Billy Dodd’s men were previously in action almost four weeks ago in the Championship, losing out to Ayr United despite the fact that Nathan Edward Shaw got on the scoresheet. Nevertheless, it was the Caley Jags’ first defeat from their last last nine outings, while recording seven victories in the period. Despite the late burst, Iverness finished at the sixth spot in the second tier standings, having collected 55 points from 36 games.
