Cardiff City will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to four games in the EFL Championship when they host relegation-threatened Huddersfield Town at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The hosts secured a thrilling 2-1 win away to Rotherham United in the mid-week, while Huddersfield are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw against sixth-placed Sunderland. Cardiff are currently occupying 18th spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 47 points from 44 games, while the visitors are sitting three places behind them, trailing by five points and just a solitary point clear of the relegation zone.

Cardiff secured all three points against Rotherham on Thursday night thanks to Kion Etete’s 11th-minute opener and Cedric Kipre’s winner three minutes from time. It was the Bluebirds’s 13th league-win of the season and the result extended their unbeaten streak to three matches, collecting seven points in the process. With two matches remaining, Sabri Lamouchi’s side have almost sealed their survival and will be hoping to end the season with a five game unbeaten streak. After the game against Huddersfield, Bluebirds will take on champions Burnley at Turf Moor on the final match day.

Huddersfield, on the other hand, still has work to do in order to ensure their Championship status for at least one more season. Appointment of Neil Warnock as the manager has had an overwhelming positive effect on the team as the former Cardiff manger has successfully taken the team out of the drop zone and the Terriers now have the faith in their own hands. Collecting 16 points from 12 outings is a better return than many Huddersfield fans would have expected. Warnock’s side came from behind to earn a point against playoff challengers Sunderland last time out courtesy of Josh Koroma’s equaliser on the hour mark. The Terriers have two games in hand over the bottom three, therefore taking six points from their final two matches would ensure their participation in the 2023-24 Championship campaign.
