Cadiz will host Real Sociedad in their 2022-23 La Liga opener at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla on Sunday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of identical defeats in their final pre-season friendly games last week. Cadiz were defeated 1-0 by Sevilla last Sunday, while Real Sociedad lost to Athletic Club with a similar scoreline a day earlier. Cadiz had avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth last term, finishing at the 17th spot in the standings, just one point clear of the drop zone. Sociedad, meanwhile, had an impressive 2021-22 La Liga season, securing a sixth place finish to earn Europa League qualification.

Cadiz didn’t have a great pre-season, registering just one win from their five friendlies, while three of those ended in defeats. Last week against Sevilla, Thomas Delaney’s lone strike was enough to separate the two sides. Los Pirates have been pretty active in the transfer market, signing the likes of Mamadou Mbaye, Fede San Emeterio, Joseba Zaluda, Victor Chust, Ruben Alcarez, Raul Parra, Ivan Chapela and Juan Flere to bolster the squad.
Real Sociedad , on the other hand, have brought in Robert Navarro, Takefusa Kubo, Brais Mendez, Robert Lopez, Peter Pokorny and Mohamed Ali-cho to boost the squad. The white and Blues had a mixed pre-season, registering two wins, one draw and three defeats. Their two victories came up against Osasuna (1-0) and AFC Bournemouth (2-1). Imanol Alhiacil’s side suffered a narrow defeat against Athletic Club in the recent outing courtesy of Mikel Vesga’s lone goal in the 23rd minute.
Cadiz midfielders Ruben Alcaraz and Emeterio are sidelined with injuries, therefore Tomas Alarcon and Alex Fernandez could come into the starting eleven. Veteran striker Alvaro Negredo is expected to lead the line alongside Lozano. As for Real Sociedad, Mikel Oyarzabal is unavailable due to a long-term injury. Swedish forward Alexander Isak is expected to lead the line alongside Kubo and Cho.
Cadiz probable starting lineup: Ledesman; Fali, chust, Hernandez; Mabil, Mari, Alarcon, Fernandez, Espino; Lozano, Negredo Â
Real Sociedad probable starting lineup: Remiro; Gorosabel, Elustondo, Le Normand, Rico; Illaramendi, Merino, Silva; Cho Isak, KuboÂ
The La Liga fixture between Cadiz and Real Sociedad will take place at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla on Sunday at 9:00Â pm IST.
