Cadiz have had a decent run since the resumption of competitive action after the World Cup break, recording two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six league-outings. Last time out, the Yellow Submarine lost to Athletic Club despite the fact that Gonzalo Escalante got on the scoresheet. Oihan Sancet’s hat-trick and one goal from Yeray Alvarez handed Cadiz their ninth top flight defeat of the season. Prior to that, Sergio Gonzalez’s side secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Mallorca, through first-half efforts from Theo Bongonda and Alex Fernandez. It was only their fourth La Liga-win of the campaign.
Girona, on the other hand, are aiming to make it back-to-back wins in Spain’s top flight on Friday. The White and Reds secured a narrow win over Valencia last Saturday, courtesy of Borja Garcia’s lone goal four minutes into the hour-mark. It was the Catalan outfit’s sixth league-win of the season. Gironestes are actually five points clear of the drop zone, so a victory against the Yellow Submarine will move them into a healthy position to fight for a top half finish. The white and Reds, who earned a promotion to the top flight through last season’s Segunda Division playoffs, have done a decent job thus far to be sitting at the mid-table. Blanquivermells will play Cadiz, Almeria and Athletic club in their upcoming fixtures this month.
