Burnley will host Blackburn Rovers in an EFL Championship fixture at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon. Both sides were involved in EFL Cup third round fixtures in the mid-week, with the hosts defeating Crawley Town 3-1, while Blackburn got the better of Premier League outfit 10-9 on penalties after the match ended 2-2 in regular time. Burnley are currently occupying second spot in the English second division standings, having collected 38 points from 20 games, level on points with leaders Sheffield United, who have played a game more. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting one place behind the Clarets, with 36 points to their name. 

Burnley got the better of Crawley Town courtesy of Ashley Barnes’ 24th-minute opener and Anass Zaroury’s second-half brace. Prior to that, Vincent company’s side suffered a 5-2 defeat away to Sheffield United. It was the Clarets’ second league-defeat of the season. Prior to that, Vincent Kompany’s side recorded a four-game winning streak, against the likes of Sunderland (4-2), Norwich City (1-0), Reading (2-1) and Rotherham United (3-2). Burnley have registered 10 wins and eight draws this season thus far. 

Blackburn, on the other hand, have recorded 10 draws and eight defeats from 20 league games thus far. The Rovers’ latest league-match against Huddersfield on home ground ended in a 1-0 win courtesy of Ben Brereton Diaz’s 35th-minute strike. After that, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side overcame a challenge from West Ham to advance to the fourth round of the EFL Cup. Once again Brereton Diaz made the headlines, as the Chile international scored an 88th-minute equaliser to take the game to the penalties, where the Rovers prevailed.
