Bristol City will host Blackburn Rovers in an EFL Championship fixture at Ashton Gate on Saturday evening. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 2-1 FA cup third round win over Swansea City in the mid-week, while Blackburn suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Rotherham United in the league, last Saturday. Despite the defeat, the Rovers are still occupying fifth spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 42 points from 27 games, 15 adrift of second-placed Sheffield United who have played a game more. The Robins, meanwhile, are languishing at the 17th position, with 32 points to their name, six clear of the relegation zone.

Bristol City got the better of Swansea in the FA cup third round replay, courtesy of Mark Bykes’ opener on the stroke of the hour-mark and 112th-minute winner from Sam Bell. The Robins will meet West Bromwich Albion in the fourth round of the Cup competition later this month. Meanwhile the result helped Nigel Pearson’s side to extend their unbeaten run to five games across all competitions, while three of those have been draws. Meanwhile, their last Championship match against Birmingham City last Saturday ended in a 4-2 win. Antoine Semenyo and Nahki Wells netted in the first half, before Sykes scored a second half brace to help Bristol take all three points against the Blues. It was their eighth league-win of the campaign.
Blackburn, on the other hand, have had a hot n cold season thus far, having recorded 14 wins and 13 defeats in 27 league-matches. Meanwhile, the Rovers’ latest form has been a cause of concern for head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, as they have lost six of their nine second tier games, the most recent being the heaviest of the campaign. The Riversiders conceded four times against the struggling Roitherham, with the first one coming inside the opening minute, before three more after the break. Despite still holding on to the playoff spot, the Blue and Whites have a -4 goal-difference, highlighting their struggles for consistency, which has worsened as the season progressed.
Bell, who scored the winner against Swans, is unlikely to find a place in the starting eleven for Bristol. Wells might lead the line, with Semenyo and Sykes in support. Andreas Weimann and Tommy Conway are still sidelined with injuries. As for Blackburn, striker Ben Brereton, who missed the defeat to Rotherham, due to the birth of his child, is expected to come back into the playing eleven. Sam Gallagher might spearhead the attack, with Bradley Dack operating behind him in a free role.
Bristol City Probable line-up: O’Leary, Tanner, Vyner, Atkinson, Pring, Scott, Naismith, James, Sykes, Wells, Semenyo
Blackburn Rovers probable line-up: Kaminski, Carter, Ayala, Hyam, Pickering, Morton, Travis, Hedges, Dack, Brereton, Diaz, Gallagher
