Both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories in their opening match on Thursday. The Selecao secured a convincing 2-0 win over Serbia on, while Switzerland got the better of Cameroon 1-0. Tite’s side dominated from the first whistle against Serbia, who were fancied to be one of the dark horses at this tournament, and made them look like an ordinary outfit. Switzerland, meanwhile, were involved in an end-to-end battle against the Indomitable Lions and deservedly came out on top.

After a goalless first half at the Lusail Stadium that saw Serbia defending with 10-men, the Selecao came out all guns blazing in the second. Left winger Vinicius Junior was the most lively player on the field while Richarlison was clinical in front of goal. Tite opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation with Neymar playing in a free role behind the central striker Richarlison, while Vinicius and Raphinha occupied the flanks. The back-four of Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Danilo and Alex Sandro looked solid and disciplined, restricting Serbia to zero attempts on goal. Meanwhile, it was interesting to see that the full-backs were not so keen on joining the attack and rather primarily focused on their defensive duties. Neymar has been ruled out for Monday’s game because of an ankle injury, therefore, Rodrygo might come into the playing eleven. Lucas Paqueta and Casemiro will form the midfield-duo.
As for Switzerland, head coach Murat Yakin is expected to opt for a similar 4-3-3 formation, with Breel Embolo leading the line. Xherdan Saqiri and Ruben Vargas could occupy the flanks. Shaqiri is going to be a threat on the left flank, as the 31-year-old is a dynamic footballer capable of providing quality crosses, while also scoring spectacular goals. Arsenal-man Granit Xhaka will aim to keep things tight in the middle of the park. The Red Crosses are likely to have very little ball possession and the quick transmission from defence to attack would be key to their success.

Neymar is reportedly set to miss the remaining group stage fixtures because of a ligament injury, joining right-back Danilo in the medical room. Therefore Tite will be forced to make two changes for Monday’s game. Rodrygo might come into the starting eleven joining Richarlison up front, while Eder Militao could replace the full-back Danilo. As for Switzerland, there are no injury concerns and Yakins is unlikely to make too many alterations to the starting eleven that got the job done against Cameroon last time out.
Brazil possible starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Alisson, Militao, Marquinhos, Silva, Paqueta, Casemiro, Raphinha, Rodrygo, Vinicius, Richarlison
Ghana probable starting lineup (4-3-3): Sommer, Widmer, Akanji, Elvedi, Rodriguez, Freuler, Xhaka, Shaqiri, Embolo, Vargas
