Casemiro's 83rd-minute strike helped Tite’s side to take all three points and book a spot in the last-16 stage, with a game to spare.
Brazil secured a narrow 1-0 win over Switzerland in their second Group G fixture to seal qualification for the knockouts of Qatar World Cup. Casemiro’s 83rd-minute strike separated the two sides at Stadium 974- Ras Abu Aboud on Monday. The victory helped Tite’s side to move to six points from their opening two games and book a spot in the last-16 stage with a game remaining. Once again it was a dominant performance from the five-time champions as they registered five shots on target, compared to zero by the Red Crosses. Neymar’s absence was pretty much evident as Brazil’s front three of Vinicuius, Richarlison and Raphinha struggled to break through a stubborn Swiss defence.

Brazil’s first real attempt on goal came in the 26th-minute when Raphinha’s inswing cross from the right flank found Vinicus at the far post but the Real Madrid-man failed to make a good contact on the ball and his effort was comfortably saved by the Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer. After the break, Rodrygo was introduced in place of Lucas Paqueta and the 21-year-old added a bit more spark to Brazil’s attack. Meanwhile Vinicus had a goal disallowed for offside after the 67th-minute. Seven minutes from time, Vinicius and Rodrygo combined before setting up Casemiro to fire home from the left side of the penalty box.

Brazil qualified for the R16 thanks to a brilliant strike from Casemiro but this match showed without Neymar, Brazil might have some difficulty to breakdown opponents’ defence. And what a scene on the stance. Revisiting the childhood heroes #BRASUI pic.twitter.com/h1BfeVVLWE
