Braga will play Middlesbrough in a pres-season friendly at Municipal de Lagos on Friday. Both sides are heading into the tie on the back of identical victories in their last outings. The Portuguese outfit got the better of Arouca 3-2 last Tuesday, while three days later, Middlesbrough defeated York City with a similar scoreline. Braga had a decent 2021-22 Primeira Liga season, finishing fourth in the points table to secure a Europa League qualification. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough had a mediocre Championship season last term, finishing seventh in the table, five points behind the playoffs.

Braga failed to retain their Taca de Portugal title last term, as they were eliminated in the round of 16 stage, while they were also knocked out in the last-8 stage of the Europa League after losing to Rangers. The Archbishops began their pre-season with a victory against Arouca and after the clash against the Championship outfit on Friday, they will take on Bournemouth, Nice, Portimonense and Celta vigo before taking on Sporting Lisbon in their Primera Liga opener.
Middlesbrough, on the other hand, began their pres-season with a thumping 5-0 win at Bishop Auckland before getting the better of York City in a five-goal encounter. Chris Wilder is now tasked with guiding Boro to the Premier League for the first time since 2016-17. The English outfit will also play Morecambe and Marseille before taking on West Brom in their Championship opener.

Braga boss Carlos Carvalhal is expected to rotate the squad heavily in order to improve the fitness of the team. New arrivals Victor Gomez and Sikou Niakate are expected to find a place in the playing eleven. Mario Gonzalez, who came off the bench to score against Arouca is expected to feature on Wednesday. As for Misddlesbrough, Wilder has deployed different starting lineups in each half of their first two pre-season matches and he may decide to adopt the same approach against Boro. Attacking midfielder Matt Crooks is likely to be deployed behind the striker Coburn.
