Borussia Dortmund will be aiming to secure the 2022-23 Bundesliga title when they host FC Koln at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday. A victory in the weekend will be enough for BVB to secure their first league-title in 11 years, as they are currently sitting at the summit of the German to flight standings, having taken 70 points from 33 games, two points clear of second-placed Bayern Munich, who will be in action at FC Koln in their fixture of the final matchday. The visitors, meanwhile, are occupying ninth position in the table, with 45 points to their name and can only finish as high as eight place, with just two points separating them from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Last weekend, Dortmund thrashed Augsburg 3-0 at WWK Arena to overtake Bayern, who lost out to RB Leipzig 3-1 in their previous outing, and climb to the summit of the table. It was BVB’s 22nd league-win of the season thanks to Sebastian Haller’s second-half brace and Julian Bradt’s lone goal three minutes into injury time. The result extended Edin Terzic’s side’s unbeaten run to seven games in the top flight, winning five matches in the period. Meanwhile, BVB boast the best home-record in the league this term, having won 14 of their 16 matches at Signal Iduna Park, and will be confident of taking all three points against a struggling Mainz and secure their seventh Bundesliga title.
Mainz, on the other hand, are heading into the match on the back of a 4-1 defeat against VFB Stuttgart despite taking the lead through Marcus Ingvartsen’s 23rd-minute effort. It was their fourth successive defeat in the league, and because of the poor run of form, they have slipped out of the top seven race and will be hoping to finish the season on a high. The 05ers have done decently well on the road having taken 21 points from 16 away games in the league this season.
Dortmund came from behind to secure a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture against Mainz back in January after Lee Jae-Sung’s opener was canceled out by Julian Ryerson and Giovanni Reyna scored a dramatic 93rd-minute winner. It was BVB’s 20th victory against the 05ers in 33 encounters across all competitions, while the Carnival Club have prevailed only five times, with their last success coming way back in 2020 in the Bundesliga.
