The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to AS Roma on Wednesday, while Atalanta came from behind to earn a dramatic 2-2 draw against Spezia, on the same day. Bologna, who concluded the first phase of the campaign by pocketing 12 points from a possible 15, couldn’t keep up the momentum, having lost to Roma in their first outing following the World cup break. Lorenzo Pellegrini’s lone goal, from the penalty spot, inside the opening six minutes, separated the two sides at Stadio Olimpico. It was Bologna’s seventh league-defeat of the campaign. However, La Grassa are unbeaten in their last four home games, having recorded one draw and three wins. Therefore Thiago Mota’s side will be confident of taking all three points in front of their own fans on Monday.
Atalanta, on the other hand, are winless in their last four Serie A games and that includes three consecutive defeats prior to the World Cup break. Meanwhile, last timeout, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side came from behind to earn a point against Spezia. First-half strikes from Emmanuel Gyasi and M’Bala Nzola gave a 2-0 lead to the Little Eagles, before Atalata came out all guns blazing in the second half, and leveled the score through Rasmus Hojlund and Mario Pasalic. Gasperini’s side showed great character to snatch a point from the jaws of defeat as Pasalic scored the equaliser two minutes into the injury time.
Bologna’s veteran defender Lorenzo De Silvestri is sidelined with calf injury, while the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Musa Barrow and Kevin Bonufazi are all set to miss out Monday’s game. Marko Arnautovic is likely to lead the line, with Aebischer, Dominguez and Orsolini in support. As for Atalanta, striker Duvan Zapata is nursing a knee injury, while goalkeeper Juan Musa is also occupying the treatment room. Marko Sportiello is likely to occupy the goal, with Toloi, Palomino and Djimsiti forming the three-man defence in front of him.
Bologna possible line-up: Skorupski, Posch, Soumaoro, Lucumi, Lykogiannis, Medel, Ferguson, Orsolini, Dominguez, Aebischer, Arnautovic
Atalanta possible line-up: Sportiello, Toloi, Palomino, Dijmsiti, Hateboer, De Roon, Koopmeiners, Zappacosta, Pasalic, Lookman, Hojlund
