Blackpool will host Preston North End in an EFL championship fixture at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Hull city on Wednesday, while Preston secured a narrow 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town, a day earlier. The victory helped the visitors to eighth position in the standings, having collected 22 points from 16 games. Blackpool, meanwhile, who have a game in hand, are languishing at the 21st spot, with just 16 points to their name, just two clear of the relegation zone.

Blackpool and fellow strugglers Hull city were involved in a lacklustre performance in the mid-week. The hosts managed to register just one shot on goal in the entire match and their lone goal came from that, through Kenny Dougall. Prior to that, Michael Appleton’s side played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Sheffield United courtesy of Jerry Yates’ brace and one goal from Dougall. The Seasiders’ last win came against Watford (3-1) on October 8 through Gary Madine’s opener and Yates’ second half double.

Preston, on the other hand, got the better of Huddersfield on Tuesday, courtesy of Greg Cunningham’s lone goal in the 50th minute. It was the Lilly Whites’ fifth league-win of the season and first one in their last three outings. Ryan Lowe’s men have the worst attack (9 goals scored) and the best defence (10 goals conceded) in the 2022-23 Championship season thus far. However, Preston’s defence have shown fatalities in recent times, having conceded six times in their last four matches. Meanwhile, Preston boasts the best away record in the second tier, having won four games on the road thus far.
