Premier League side Leeds United will be taking on Championship outfit Blackpool on Thursday to kickstart their pre-season. Blackpool though have already played their first friendly, with a 2-0 win over National League North side Southport. However, the upcoming clash against a Premier League side will represent a much more difficult challenge for them. Hence, they have to be at the top of their game to get anything out of the match. Meanwhile, Leeds will hope to start the competition on a positive note before flying off to Australia to play further friendlies.

In the recently concluded campaign, Leeds narrowly survived relegation, as they were in the battle for safety right to the end. Finally, they managed to get 38 points from 38 games to survive the drop at the expense of Burnley. The upcoming one will be their third successive campaign at the top flight. On the other hand, Blackpool finished the last Championship season in 16th place, with 60 points from 46 games. Both sides will be keen to build on their performance from the last campaign and for that, they will be eager to have a positive pre-season outing.

Jesse Marsch, who took over for Marcelo Bielsa as Leeds United manager earlier this year, would be eager to avoid relegation in his first full season at Elland Road. Their holding midfielder Kalvin Phillips has already left the club for Manchester City this summer. Besides, their star winger Raphinha is also linked with a move away following reported interests from Barcelona and Chelsea. Hence, they might have to prepare for life without these two main players.
They have already signed Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, Branden Aaronson and Darko Gyabi. A few of them could play for some minutes in the upcoming friendly. With this match coming ahead of their trip to Australia, they will try to rotate their squad as much as possible to give enough game time to everyone. Something similar can be expected from Blackpool as well. They fielded two different playing XI in each half during their last friendly against Southport, which they could continue again on Thursday too.
