Blackburn Rovers will host Blackpool in an EFL Championship fixture at Ewood Park on Tuesday night. The previous meeting between these two sides was less than six months ago and it ended 1-0 in favour of the Rovers, courtesy of Brereton Diaz’s 16th-minute effort. Meanwhile, as of now, the hosts are occupying eighth spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 49 points from 32 games, level on points with sixth-placed Sunderland, who are occupying the final Playoff spot, but separated by goal-difference. Blackpool, on the other hand, are languishing at the 23rd position, with just 31 points to their name, two points adrift of safety.

After playing out three successive draws against Wigan Athletic, Watford and West Bromwich Albion to begin February, the Rovers edged past the Swans on Saturday to get back to winning ways. Daniel Ayala’s 89th-minute effort separated the two sides at Ewood Park and helped the Riversiders secure their 15th second tier victory of the season. Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side have been very good at home, having won six of their 15 league-fixtures this season on familiar territory, a record bettered by only the Championship-leaders Burnley. Despite recording just two league-wins since the turn of the year, the Rovers are very much in the hunt for the playoff race.
Blackpool, on the other hand, are also heading into Tuesday’s game on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Stoke City on Saturday, thanks to Ian Poveda’s 7th-minute effort. The Potters came out all guns blazing for an equalsier at Bloomfield Road, recording 25 attempts on goal, with six of them on target, but the Seasiders managed to hold on to the slender lead and secured their seventh league-win of the season. The Tangerines have lost their last four away games in all competitions and are without a win on the road since the trip to Coventry City in late October.

Although the recent meetings between these two sides have gone largely in favour of Blackburn, the Seasiders have an advantage in the overall head-to-head record. The last five encounters have seen the Rovers recording three wins, including the reverse fixture this season, while Blackpool triumphing just once during that period. Meanwhile, when it comes to the overall record, Blackpool have 15 wins to their name in 38 clashes, compared to 11 for the Riversiders.
