Billy Gilmour, who joined Norwich City from Chelsea on a season-long loan is relishing his first taste of competitive action with the Canaries when they host Liverpool on Saturday. The Scottish international came to limelight after Scotland’s Euro 2020 game against England, when the Tartan Army held the mighty England to a goalless draw at Wembley stadium. The 20-year-old defensive midfielder had an impressive game and also won the Man of the Match award.

Speaking at the Premier League’s annual media day at the Lotus Training Centre, Gilmour said: “I can’t wait for the season to start. We’re looking forward to the game, we know it’ll be tough against Liverpool but it’s an exciting time.

“I’ve enjoyed pre-season. It’s been difficult with the cancelled games but when we’ve played, we’ve done well. We’ve looked sharp and the work on the training pitch has been good as well.

“I’m learning in training every day, but there’s still loads more for me to learn too.”

Gilmour offered an insight into his first impressions of working with Daniel Farke.

“The boss here is really on it. He wants to play football the right way. Of course, in tough moments we may need to look at other ways to play.

“He’s been great with me and speaks with me every day about how Norwich play and it’s great for me to learn.”

The 20-year-old is considered by many as Scotland’s biggest talent in 50 years.

“I think I can bring a calmness to the team. I like to keep the ball and, despite being a small player, I’m not scared of a tackle.

He said he would like to add to his game during his time at Norwich.

“I would like to think I can bring something new to me and hopefully it works.

“For me, I knew after the Euros I needed to go and get first-team football regularly. To come here to Norwich, I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s been different but the boys have welcomed me really well and I just can’t wait to get started.”
