Benfica will host Juventus in a UEFA champions League fixture at the Estadio da Luz on Tuesday night. The hosts are currently occupying second position in Group H, having collected eight points from four games, level on points with leaders Paris Saint-Germain, but separated by goal-difference. Juventus, meanwhile, are sitting at the third spot, with just three points to their name. Benfica are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Porto in a Portuguese Primeira Liga match on Saturday, while the visitors thrashed Empoli 4-0 in a Serie A match on the same day.

Benfica, have been impressive in the group stage of the 2022-23 champions League thus far, having recorded two wins and two draws. The two draws came against PSG. In the away match against the Ligue 1 outfit last week, Kylian Mbappe’s opener was canceled out by Joao Mario to share the spoils. A victory on Tuesday will seal Benfica’s qualification to the last-16 of the competition. Meanwhile, last time out, the Eagles got the better of Porto in a domestic league fixture courtesy of Rafa Silva’s lone goal in the 72nd minute. The victory helped Roger Schmidt’s side to move to 28 points from 10 games, at the summit of the Portuguese top flight standings.

Juventus, on the other hand, need all three points on Tuesday to keep their hopes of qualification alive. The Serie A outfit began their European campaign with back-to-back 2-1 defeats against PSG and Benfica, before getting the better of Maccabi Haifa (3-1) at home. However, in the away match, the Israeli club secured a 2-0 win to put Juventus on the brink of elimination. Last time out, in the Serie A match against Empoli, the Bianconeri netted four times without reply. Moise Kean and Weston McKennie scored one goal each, while Adrien Rabiot netted a late-double at the Juventus stadium.
