Benfica will host Dynamo Kyiv at Estadio da Luz in the second leg of their Champions League qualification playoff tie on Tuesday. The first leg at Stadio LKS had ended 2-0 in favour of the Portuguese outfit courtesy of goals from Gilberto Junior and Goncalo Ramos. Benfica are now just 90 minutes away from securing a place in the group stages of Europe’s elite club football competition. Meanwhile Dynamo Kyiv made it this far in the qualifiers by getting the better of Fenerbahce and SK Sturm Graz in the previous rounds. The Ukrainian outfit can be proud of their performances as they have made it this far despite the war against Russia happening back home.

Benfica earned a spot in the third round of qualifying by finishing third in the 2021-22 Primeira Liga. Roger Schmidt’s side thrashed Midtjylland 7-2 on aggregate in the previous round to book a meeting with Dynamo Kyiv. And then in a thrilling contest at Wladyslaw Krol Municipal stadium, the Eagles took the lead inside the opening nine minutes through Gilberto. Ramos doubled the lead in the 37th-minute to seal the win and helped Benfica put one foot in the Champions League group stage. Meanwhile all is not lost for Mircea Lucescu’s side as they are seeking to overturn a two-goal deficit to go through to the next stage.
