Beijing Guoan will play host to Shenzhen in a Chinese super League fixture at Wuhua Hengpi Football Town on Tuesday. The hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a 2-2 draw at Meizhou Hakka on Friday, while Shenzhen defeated Shijiazhuang Ever Bright 1-0 last time out. The victory helped the visitors to move to the fifth spot in the standings with nine points from 4 games, just four points behind leaders Wuhan Three Town FC. Meanwhile Beijing Guoan are at the seven spot, two points adrift of Shenzhen. Both teams have had a decent start to the domestic season, losing just one of their opening four games and will be aiming to secure a win at the Workers stadium and close the gap on the three pacesetters.
Beijing Guoan began the new season with a 2-1 loss to Shijiazhuang Ever Bright before getting their acts together to get the better of Chengdu Rongcheng in a five-goal thriller. And then, the 2019- runner-ups edged past Tianjin Reda courtesy of Marko Dabro’s lone goal which came four minutes from time. In the last match, against Meizhou Hakka, Xie Feng’s side took an early two-goal lead courtesy of a brace from Zhang Yuning. The home side immediately pulled one back through Aleksa Vukanovic before Rade Dugalic leveled the score in the second half. After posting their lowest finish in 2021, Beijing are motivated to pull their socks up and challenge for the title this time around.
Shenzhen, on the other hand, had a better start to the campaign than Beijing. Lee Sang-Soo’s side registered three wins in their four opening games. It started with a victory against Chengdu Rongcheng before edging past Tianjin Teda with a scoreline of 2-1 and then suffered a 2-1 loss against Meizhou Hakka. However, Shenzhen then got the better of Shijiazhuang Ever Bright courtesy of Frank Acheampong’s 6th-minute goal. It was the Ghanian forward’s third goal of the season. Meanwhile Shenzhen’s first four fixtures have taken place at home, this game providing a different test as they travel to Beijing.
Beijing Guoan suffered two injury blows in the previous match as both Jin Peng Xiang and Samuel Adegbenro were forced off immediately after the restart. Therefore Zhang and Wang Ziming are expected to get a starting role on Tuesday. Zhang Yuning is expected to lead the attack alongside Wang Ziming. As for Shenzhen, head coach Lee has a fully fit squad at his disposal and is unlikely to make too many alterations to the starting eleven.
