Bayern Munich will begin their preparations for the restart of the Bundesliga next week, with a club friendly against Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg at FC Bayern Campus Platz-1 on Friday evening. Prior to the World Cup break, Bayern’s last match was against Schalke on November 12, which ended in a 2-0 win at the Veltins Arena. It was the Bavarians’ 10th consecutive league-win of the campaign, taking their tally to 34 points from 15 games, at the summit of the German top flight standings. Salzburg, meanwhile, also are occupying top spot in the Austrian Bundesliga table, with 39 points to their name from 16 games.

Bayern Munich netted twice against Schalke without reply in their last outing on November 12, courtesy of strikes from Serge Gnabry and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. It was their 10th successive win across all competitions. The stunning run of form saw Julian Nagelsmann’s side move four points clear at the summit, as well as easing themselves into the knockout stages of the Champions League with six wins from as many games. The Bavarians are set to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the two legged round of 16 tie of the continental competition next month. Meanwhile, Bayern will travel to RB Leipzig next Friday, for their first competitive game in more than two months.
Salzburg, on the other hand, will not return to competitive action until facing Sturm Graz in the Austrian Cup on February 3. Austria always takes an extended winter break due to adverse weather conditions, although it is a prolonged one this season due to the recent World Cup in Qatar. Meanwhile, Matthias Jaissle’s side’s last competitive game was on November 13, when they edged past Austria Klagenfurt courtesy of Benjamin Sesko’s lone goal ten minutes into the second half. Although the Red Bulls failed to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League, they managed to finish third in Group E, setting up a fascinating encounter against Roma in the Europa League last-32 tie.
