Bayer Leverkusen will host Augsburg in a Bundesliga fixture at BayArena on Saturday. Both sides suffered defeats in their opening fixture of the new league campaign last weekend. The hosts lost 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund, while Augsburg were thrashed 4-0 by Freiburg. After securing a Champions League qualification by finishing fourth in the Bundesliga standings last term, Leverkusen would be hoping to bounce back quickly and fight for a better position in the German top flight. Augsburg, on the other hand, finished 14th in the points table last season, managing to avoid relegation by just five points.

Last Saturday, at the Westfalenstadion, Marco Reus’ 10th-minute tap-in was enough to hand Leverkusen their opening day defeat of the new league campaign. It was an evenly-fought encounter. Although Die Werkself created the better chances against BVB, they were unfortunate to end up at the losing side. Prior to that, Gerardo Seoane’s side were eliminated from the first round of DFB-Pokal courtesy of losing 4-3 against third tier outfit SV Elversberg. Augsburg, on the other hand, conceded four times against Freiburg last time out. Michael Gregoritsch, Vincenzo Grifo, Matthias Ginter and Ritsu Doan netted for Christian Streich’s side to take all three points.

Leverkusen’s first choice goalkeeper Hradecky, who received a red card in the previous game is suspended for Saturday’s game and therefore Andrey Luney is likely to occupy the goal. Florian Wirtz is sidelined with a ligament injury. Schik is expected to lead the line with Sardar Azmoun playing behind him. As for Augsburg, there are several injury concerns, with Lukas Petkov, Niklas Dorsch, Ruben Vargas, Reece Oxford, Tobias Strobl and Joel Sarenren Bazee all occupying the medical room.
